Applying for Positions
Last updated: March 2026
Applying through the NATA Career Center is straightforward, but a few steps can meaningfully improve your results. This guide covers the full application process — from finding a listing to following up after you apply.
Find a position
Use the Job Search page to browse open positions. You can filter by keyword, category, location, employment type, and salary range. Click any listing to view the full job description.
Read the full job description carefully
Before applying, read the entire listing. Note the required qualifications, preferred qualifications, responsibilities, and any application instructions. Some employers request additional materials (cover letter, references) — missing these can disqualify you automatically.
Select and verify your resume
Click "Apply Now." The application form will show your default resume. If you want to use a different version, click "Change Resume" and select the appropriate file from your saved resumes.
Write a tailored cover letter (when requested)
If the employer requests a cover letter, take 10–15 minutes to write one that directly addresses the position. Mention the specific role, explain why you are a strong fit, and reference one or two key qualifications from the job description. Generic cover letters are easily spotted and rarely advance.
Complete any custom questions
Some employers include screening questions in their application form (e.g., "Are you BOC certified?" or "Are you available to start within 30 days?"). Answer all questions accurately and completely.
Review and submit your application
Review all your information before clicking "Submit Application." Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. The employer will also be notified immediately.
Track your applications
Visit "My Applications" in your dashboard to see the status of every application you have submitted. Statuses include Submitted, Reviewed, Interview Scheduled, and Closed.
Follow up professionally
If you have not heard back within 7–10 business days, it is acceptable to send a brief, polite follow-up email to the employer's contact address (if listed). Express continued interest and ask whether they need any additional information.
Pro Tip
Customize your resume for each application by reordering bullet points so the most relevant experience appears first. Even small adjustments show the employer you read the listing carefully.
